John & Maren – Backyard Farm Wedding in Taylor Falls

This beautiful couple might live and work in the city now, but they’re still in touch with where they came from!  John and Maren had a family-filled, backyard farm wedding where Maren grew up.  There might have been a huge crowd of family and friends there to watch this couple become a family, but it still felt like an intimate affair, filled with tons of handmade touches and family traditions!  The day started with a family potluck with some of the best food I’ve ever tasted and all, of course, made with love.

Then we moved to the farm to get ready.  Maren’s family home was incredibly cozy and inviting, and full of life with all of the family around!  Some of them relaxed on the porch, sipping lemonade and listening to music while Maren was dressing.  She wore her grandmother’s veil, and the bridesmaids all had handmade touches to their gorgeous turquoise and coral dresses.

The ceremony was just as warm and full of love as the rest of the day.  Maren’s brother Carl and his fiance performed an incredibly touching song.  After the vows were exchanged, we all moved outside for a big family photo before heading into the reception tent to admire the photos on display.  The evening ended with some dancing, a warm campfire, and a stunning fireworks display!

The Kransekake (or Kransekage) translates literally to “wreath cake”, and it’s a traditional Norwegian or Danish dessert served at special occasions such as baptisms, Christmas, New Year’s, or weddings.  At weddings, it’s customary for the bride and groom to take hold of the first ring and lift the cake – however many rings come with that top ring is supposed to predict how many children the couple will have.  Apparently John and Maren should expect a LARGE family!

Congratulations, Maren and John!  I am so thankful that I got to be a part of  your special day.
